Auntie Cory
As a medic, I am always curious about a patient's condition long after he or she has been under our care. It is always a morale boost whenever I hear a patient recovers and it is always heartbreaking when one passes on.
I've seen patients come and go—some during my watch while others just gave in at the hospital. Being a healthcare provider, I was trained to be de-sensitized and except for a few special cases, I could easily just take a moment of silence and move on.
Today, a patient near and dear to me has gone over the blue yonder. She was the first patient I catered to after completing my EMT course and most of my waking days since were kept on track by her regular dialysis sessions. Over time, I would grow to love her like a relative and we would joke around while en route to UST Hospital. She couldn't talk much but she would fire off short quips that made us all laugh!
Once again, I am reminded that time is a commodity we cannot afford. Spend wisely the time you have.
It was a privilege to have served you, "Auntie Cory". I thank you for the memories and I pray that you complete your journey to eternal paradise.
