It was one of those days when you’d simply curl up in bed and pull the blanket over your head but it was a workday. As a professional, you simply ignore the day of the week or the time of year; you are desensitized and sometimes, unfeeling.
The rain was beating down. The wind was blowing hard enough to ruin a cheap umbrella or lift a skirt had anyone made the mistake of wearing one. I had no wish of being up at such an ungodly hour but it was my duty. This is my world. This is my life. There are no holidays.
I rose, as I normally did everyday. I never label a day or a morning as good or bad—just something to look forward to, to survive and to prevail.
I felt nothing that morning except that I missed my kids and wanted to be with them more than anything. I wasn’t sad, wasn’t angry and I did not complain. Working is my expression of love for my children; it takes much of the pain away and it gives me a purpose to go on. I was under the weather but there was simply no time to rest.
Perhaps the best part of the day is when you call it. Having little time for a social life, my “outside world” lies within the realm of virtual reality. It was when I got on-line when it hit me; an act of thoughtfulness, a serendipitous event that made the day worth going through.
Sometimes we expect too much perfection out of our day—a common cause for frustration and disappointment. How many of us wake up on the first day of the week and program their minds that it’s a “Manic Monday” or wait till the end of the week before they decide to have a little fun and decompress over a couple of beers?
Any day is a good day or better yet; A DAY IS ONLY AS GOOD AS YOU MAKE IT!
Although I had no major expectations, I went through the day like it was my last. That did not mean I had to do wild and crazy stuff to enjoy it. All it took was look back at the good things that have happened so far and look forward to better days ahead. Why wait for better days? Live today like it was the best day of your life!
Staring at my home page late that night, I knew I was right. It was a great day after all!
